Sensitive Skin Saviour: PACK age Sheet Mask Review

I Love Korean Sheet Masks.

Korean sheet masks are actually what got me into Korean skincare in general. Their sheets are so different to the “My Beauty Diary” masks that I’ve used 10 years ago. They fit so well on the skin and deliver so much better results than those thick cotton ones that keep dripping.

PACK age is a new brand of Korean sheet mask recently caught my eye. First of all is the brand name, I think it’s cool how much meaning this name contains. Koreans call their masks PACK, so it’s like using sheet masks to lock your age, or does it mean it’s the era of sheet masking? I might be thinking too much.

Then it’s the illustrations, I mean how cute are they! They also name their masks in a way that comforts and motivates you. But these are not as important as the 8-free system that they use. You know I’m all about quality when it comes to skincare. The 8 things that they’ve taken out are actually things that I cared about – it’s too often that companies market on these n-free systems that they’ve taken what most people don’t have anyway.

So all PACK age masks are free of:

  • Paraben
  • Fragrance
  • Alcohol
  • Mineral Oil
  • Silicone
  • Pigment
  • PEG
  • Phenoxy-ethanol

The standouts for me are Fragrance, Alcohol and PEG. PEG is something that’s more often seen than not in sheet masks. It’s commonly attached to Hydrogenated Castor Oil and formulated as an emollient or lubricant. I find this ingredient often too heavy for my skin and inhibits the hydrators from penetrating into the skin. To me, it’s an oily substance that doesn’t hydrate and sometimes could even dehydrate.

Finally, I liked PACK age’s initiatives to environmental sustainability. They use tencel for their sheets, which is a more sustainable alternative to cotton. Each sheet mask is individually packed with paper that has foil insides, which I think is a great initiative to reduce plastic use.

That was a long intro! Let’s get into the review. In this post, I’ll show you four sheet masks I tried from PACK age, which I think is their entire collection of sheet masks used for the face. They are:

  • Don’t Worry Healing Mask
  • Sweet Dream Deep Sleeping Mask
  • Everyday Bouncy Facial Mask
  • I Love Myself Makeup Boosting Mask

Don’t Worry Healing Mask

This was the first one I tried out of the bunch. It was quite wet when I took it out of the packet, but didn’t have much leftover serum.

The serum is almost water-like, very runny and not much viscocity. The main ingredients are Centella Asiatica Extract and Water, which explains its consistency.

Ingredients:

Centella Asiatica Extract, Water, Pentylene Glycol, Glycerin, Madecassoside, Carbomer, Arginine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Althaea Rosea Root Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Sh-Oligopeptide-1

This is probably the shortest ingredients list I’ve seen for a sheet mask, with mostly soothing ingredients. There are not much fillers in there.

The sheet of this mask is a little texturised, which means it’s not as soft as the others, but bearable.

Fitting of this mask is quite good. It adheres very well to the skin and the holes and size matched my face very well.

After using the mask, I felt it has soothed the acne on my chin a little. They weren’t hurting as much and weren’t as red. It wasn’t as hydrating as other sheet masks I’ve tried. It’s like I’ve applied some toner rather than a serum. I feel this mask would be perfect for the summer time, where you don’t want any stickiness or oiliness but only the refreshing and cooling effect.

It’s also a mask that you could use in place of your toner, for the “pick me up” effect.

Sweet Dream Deep Sleeping Mask

This was the second mask I tried from PACK age, and it was weird.

It’s not your traditional serum mask, but a lotion mask.

The sheet is quite thick and alomost opaque. When I took it out, there were a thick layer of lotion on the top. For the application, I first squeezed out all of the leftover lotion from the packet and applied it to the face, then applied the sheet on top. The sheet itself was quite dry, I think that’s because it hasn’t absorbed much of the lotion.

The serum (lotion) is quite pleasant to use. It has a slight lavender scent from the Lavender Extract and Oil. The scent was quite gentle. The serum had a lot of slip but didn’t feel oily.

Ingredients:

Water, Methylpropanediol, Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Macadamia Terrifolia Seed Oil, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Coco-Glucoside, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender), Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Arginine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Olus, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Brassica Oleracea Acephala Leaf Extract, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Origanum Vulgare Leaf Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA

The ingredients list is again without much fillers, but mainly lubricating oils and plant extracts.

Because it is a lotion, the mask didn’t feel dry even after 30 minutes. I took it off and massaged in the leftover lotion. The mask has made my skin extremely soft and smooth. I very much enjoyed using it, I feel it has given me the moisturisating that I was after.

The downside with this mask is the hassel at the beginning with applying the lotion then the sheet, which was quite messy, but the results have been pleasing.

Everyday Bouncy Facial Mask

Everyday Bouncy is the odd one out of the four. It didn’t have the similar themed illustration as the other three, but a cartoonish one. The packaging is not made of paper but plastic.

The sheet is quite thin, but holds the serum with no problems at all. There wasn’t a lot of dripping or lefe over serum. The sheet is very soft and smooth, fits to the skin perfectly, just like second skin. It’s my favourite sheet out of the four.

The serum is lightweight, but not completely watery. It has some viscocity, which make it felt like a serum rather than water.

I think this mask is closest to the other Korean sheet masks I’ve tried and liked.

Ingredients:

Water, Methylpropanediol, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Arginine, HydroxyEthylCellulose, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Honey Extract, Propolis Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Glycerin, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, PVM/MA Copolymer, Trehalose, Panthenol, Allantoin

Again, a very clean ingredients list, with mostly hydrating ingredients and a few anti-aging ones.

The result is hydrated, brightened, plumped and radiant skin, the kind you would expect after doing a sheet mask.

Overall, this is your regular Korean sheet mask, but a good one that’s clean, fragrance-free and not heavy.

I Love Myself Makeup Boosting Mask

Last but not least, we have I Love Myself. I don’t usually use sheet masks before applying makeups, so I’ve just used this one how I would normally use sheet masks.

The sheet for this one is the thinnest out of the four. It’s also the worst fitting one. The sheet is much larger than my face, so I had a lot of leftovers on the sides of my face.

The serum is in beween Everyday Bouncy and Don’t Worry, slightly heavier than water but much lighter than serums. It’s an essence.

The mask had quite a strong smell of acid. I first thought it was alcohol, but it’s alcohol-free.

Ingredients:

Water, Methylpropanediol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium Salicylate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Arginine, Carbomer, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, Sciadopitys Verticillata Root Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Citrus Limon Fruit Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugarcane) Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Ethlhyxylglycerin

There are quite a number of acids used in this mask with the aim to micro-exfoliate and make a smooth surface for the makeup to glide on.

I do feel my face is smoother and has a slight slip to it after using the mask. It’s not overly hydrating so it wouldn’t make your foundation slide around, but still plumping enough so fine lines wouldn’t show.

My skin is at a pretty good condition, so you wouldn’t see much improvements apart from the slight brightening and plumping effects.

Summary

The PACK age masks definitely carries some properties that are missed in the current Korean sheet mask industry. Its ingredients lists are very clean, without much fillers, which is reflected in the textures of their serums, which are clean, lightweight and goes well on the skin. I think these sheet masks would really please those with sensitive or acne prone skins. I very much enjoyed using them myself.

I also liked the fact that all four variations are different to each other, not just by changing an ingredient or two, but the feeling and the results are pretty true to the claims that they make, which I think is something that’s missed by many mask companies.

Finally, these masks are very easy and pleasant to use. The serums weren’t heavy or sticky and most of the sheets fitted very well to my face. After four uses, my skin is in a pretty good condition.
