The sunscreen primer that actually works – Moonshot Multi Protection UV Bouncer Review

I have been looking for a long lasting primer with sunscreen for the longest time. What I found is primers with high SPF are usually not long lasting and long lasting primers usually have low or no SPF. I’ve almost given up the idea of having such a primer, then Moonshot Multi Protection UV Bouncer appeared. It’s the first primer I tried with SPF 50+ that actually controls oil very well.

Packaging

Moonshot Multi Protection UV Bouncer comes in a sleek black plastic tube with a pump dispenser. It’s very compact compared with other products of the same volume. It’s travel and carry-on friendly. I love the pump bottle which has a relatively small nozzle that you can dispense the exact amount you need. The lid snaps well so that you don’t need to worry about it falling off while in your bag.

Water, Alcohol Denat., Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Octocrylene, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butylene Glycol, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Silica, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Oxygen, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Phyllostachis Bambusoides Juice, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Glycine, Histidine, Glutamic Acid, Isoleucine, Lysine, Leucine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Alanine, Cysteine,Proline, Phenylalanine, Methionine, Threonine, Tyrosine, Valine, Serine, Chenopodium Quinoa Seed Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Lilium Candidum Bulb Extract, Syringa Vulgaris (Lilac) Extract, Saussurea Involucrata Extract, Malpighia Emarginata (Acerola) Fruit Extract, Carex Humillis Root Extract, Buddleja Axillaris Leaf Extract, Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract, Psidium Guajava Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Abronia Villosa Leaf Extract, Cinchona Succirubra Bark Extract, Sorbaria Sorbifolia Bark/Leaf Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Dimethicone, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Isohexadecane, Polysorbate 80, Potassium Hydroxide, BHT, Disodium EDTA, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Fragrance

Alcohol is high up on the list, which is used to create its thin consistency and take away the shine. I do find it slightly drying at the end of the day.

The next few are all chemical UV filters, which covers both spectrum of UVA and UVB.

Then we have Silica, which is a slip agent and an ingredient that draws moisture out of your skin and keeping it matte.

Followed by a bunch of botanical extracts and slip agents.

Colour

It is white out of the bottle and turns clear after massage into the skin.

Scent

It has a slightly minty and refreshing fragrance.

Texture

It has a gel texture coming out of the bottle. After massaging, it turns into a clear watery consistency that gets absorbed quickly, leaving the skin smooth and primed.

Application

I normally take about 1.5 pumps for my entire face. I spread it all over my using my fingertips. Due to its light consistency and alcohol content, it’s absorbed into the skin pretty quickly. But maybe because I’m used to sunscreens with heavier consistency, I have the feeling that I’m not applying enough to protect my skin from the sun.

It has this slight cooling sensation when applied to the skin, probably from the Peppermint Extract.

Results

The skin feels moisturised right after applying the primer and it adds a natural-looking glow to the skin. As the primer sets, the skin started to feel and appear matte. The glow becomes more subtle.

The primer melts into the skin completely without any white casts.

It also doesn’t have any coverage and has minimum pore blurring effects.

I can’t verify much about the sunscreen effect as we haven’t been getting a lot of sun in the past few weeks, but it provides SPF 50+ and PA+++.

The best part is its oil control ability. When wearing this primer, I don’t produce as much oil and my makeup stays very well throughout the day and night.

I do find it slightly drying as I don’t use a moisturiser during the day, but you can’t have oil control and moisturising at the same time.

Price

Moonshot Multi Protection UV Bouncer retails for 25,000 Won (~$31 AUD) for 40ml of product. It’s a mid-range price. I don’t find it cheap or expensive. It’s about right.

Verdict

Moonshot Multi Protection UV Bouncer is the first primer I’ve ever used that had both the SPF and the oil control ability. I recommend this primer for people with oily skin and looking for a long lasting solution for their base makeup.
