I find myself relying a lot on gel moisturisers this summer. As an oily-dehydrated skin, I’ve never really enjoyed 100% gel-based moisturisers, because I find them very weak with locking moisture within the skin. So after some time, my skin would feel tight and start to produce oil like crazy. This summer, I’ve used two gel moisturisers that were surprisingly hydrating enough and able to keep moisture within the skin for a long time. One of them is the I’m From Vitamin Tree Water Gel. This is probably my favourite gel moisturiser out of all. The other is the Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel and is what I’m going to talk about today.
Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel was quite surprising for me. It has a super-thin consistency that I thought would be evaporated quickly and not moisturising enough. But it actually kept my skin hydrated for the whole night. It’s also a versatile product that can be used in a thick layer then washed off. It washes off completely without any greasy residue that other gel moisturisers tend to have.
Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel comes in a simple white plastic tube. The tube is sealed with foil. I like how it comes in a tube for hygine, but I can image myself cutting it up when I reach the end. The 100ml content is easy to travel with, you can even take it on the plane if you wish to. Somehow it feels smaller in hand than its sister Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel.
Benton is well-known for its minimalism in ingredients, this gel is no exception. It is made with 80% Centella Asiatica Extract along with the active compounds of Centella, i.e. Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid, Asiaticoside and Madecassoside. It also contains my favourite Houttuynia Cordata Extract.
Centella Asiatica Extract, Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Arginine, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate / VP, Copolymer, Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Gluconate, Chamaecyparis Obtusa Water, Propanediol, Butylene Glycol, Enantia Chlorantha Bark Extract, Oleanolic Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid, Asiaticoside, Madecassoside, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine, Sucrose Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol
When I started using this gel, my skin was in a slightly irritated state. It was hot, I used chemical sunscreens which heated up my skin even further. I first slathered the gel on as a wash-off mask, which did a fantastic job at instantly cooling down my skin and injecting it with hydration. I then used it as my regular night moisturiser, which has brought my skin to a less sensitive, more stable and calm state.
Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel is completely colourless/transparent.
I don’t have the best nose, but I can’t smell any scent for this product.
Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel has a very lightweight, watery consistency. It is a non-flowable gel, but it spreads really far. A small pea sized amount can actually cover my entire forearm.
It leaves a slightly tacky after-feeling after the application. The tackiness slowly goes away in a few minutes when its fully absorbed.
I’ve used the Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel in two ways. One is to use it as a regular moisturiser. I take a small drop size and massage it gently across my entire face and neck.
Secondly, I’ve used it as a wash-off mask for deep hydration and intense calming. I apply a relatively thick layer to my entire face and let it sit for 45 minutes to 1 hour, then wash it off with warm water. This has helped greatly with my redness and heated skin temperature.
The redness in my skin has reduced greatly ever since I started using this gel. It also doesn’t get heated as easily when I use chemical sunscreens now. But the best part of this gel is, it feels so soothing and relaxing to use. It’s grease-less and 100% breathable. It doesn’t feel like you’ve covered your skin with something. My skin has become less oily. It’s sufficiently hydrating that my skin doesn’t feel tight after an entire night.
Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel retails for 17,500 Won (~$22 AUD) for 100ml of products. I think it’s quite
I think everyone needs a gel moisturiser for days when you simply cannot stand a cream or even gel-cream. Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel is one that cools down your skin immediately and keeping your skin well hydrated for a long time.
