It’s rare that we link affordable and eye cream together. Even when they’re linked together, I wouldn’t dare to put best in front. But recently I was very impressed by an eye cream, that’s both affordable and effective. If you were always hesitant about eye creams because of their high price tag, this eye cream is a great starting point. I’m talking about the Secret Key Starting Treatment Eye Cream.
The Secret Key Starting Treatment Eye Cream comes in a sleek plastic squeeze tube with a twist cap. I think this type of packaging is simple and practical for an eye cream. I much prefer this than those in a tub with a spatula. Overall, it’s simple, sturdy and travel-friendly.
Water, Glycerin, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Niacinamide, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Beeswax, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Sodium Polyacrylate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Stearic Acid, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Adenosine, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Boswellia Serrata Resin Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Acanthopanax Senticosus (Eleuthero) Root Extract, rh-Oligopeptide-1, Lecithin, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ceramide NP, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Triethanolamine, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance
This is a lengthy list of ingredients. If you look into it, there are only 5 ingredients before Niacinamide. The highest content of Niacinamide in Korean cosmetics is 2%, so majority of the cream is made with the first 5 ingredients. They’re moisturisers, emollients and emulsifiers, making up the texture of this cream. I think texture in eye cream is the key. It’s the reason why some eye creams are great while others are not.
Keep looking down the list, you’ll see Niacinamide for brightening, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate for whitening and anti-aging, Shea Butter for moisturising, Green Tea, Rice, Ginseng Root, peptide, Lecithin and Ceramide, all ingredients targeting at anti-aging and awakening the skin’s energy.
To be honest, it’s not a very impressive ingredients list with high contents of active ingredients. And I think eye creams are not meant to be. They need the emollients to lock in the moisture and keep the moisture for a long time, so that your skin will not dry out and develop wrinkles. So don’t be disappointed if you don’t see a high content of active ingredients in a product.
The Secret Key Starting Treatment Eye Cream is a white cream when squeezed out of the tube and turns clear after massaging into the skin.
It has a medium strength cosmetics fragrance.
I’ve always said that texture is the soul of an eye cream and it’s the reason why the Secret Key Starting Treatment Eye Cream works so well. It has the right texture that moisturises well, stays moisturising for long and not overly oily or reactive with other products.
It’s a gel cream, but on the thicker and drier side, closer to an ointment, but not as oily. It effectively fills in the fine lines, relaxes the skin texture and reduces the appearance of fine lines.
However, it’s not too thick or oily, so it sits very well underneath makeup.
It applies smoothly over the skin, absorbs quickly so you don’t over-massage the eye area. It leaves the skin very well moisturised, plumped and filled. The moisturisation lasts for a long time, so your eye area doesn’t get dry during the day or night.
I use about a rice grain size for both eyes. I apply this all over my eye lid, inbetween my lashes, underneath the eye and on the temples. I use it day and night after or right before my face moisturiser.
The 30ml tube would last 4-6 months with twice daily use.
Moisturised and brightened eye area.
The eye cream has improved my fine lines by quite a bit. They’re barely visible now.
Best part, this eye cream retails for only 13,000 Won (~AUD$16) for 30ml of product! It’s worth every cent and more.

An eye cream at this price is especially good for those younger ages, to start prevent every single fine lines from developing. But even with the more mature skins, this eye cream would give visible results if you use it consistently.
