Some By Mi Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream Review

Another Mineral Sunscreen – Some By Mi Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream Review

I’m so excited to see more and more 100% mineral sunscreens in the market that applies beautifully on the skin, overhauling the typical discomfort associated with mineral sunscreens. This one from Some By Mi feels just like a lightweight cream, spreads well, non-greasy, no residue, no white cast. In fact, this sunscreen feels weightless on the skin and makes applying sunscreen so easy and reluctant-free.

Being a mineral sunscreen, the Some By Mi Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream protects the skin from sunlight via physical reflections only. It doesn’t contain chemical filters that would heat up the skin which causes irritations. With the addition of the Centella complex, this suncream is extra soothing on the skin.

Packaging

Some By Mi Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream comes in a squeeze tube with twist cap. This is probably my favourite sunscreen packaging. It’s simple, clean, easy to use and hassle-free.

Ingredients

Water, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Zinc Oxide, Silica, 1,2-Hexanediol, Niacinamide, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Water, Titanium Dioxide(CI 77891), Sodium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Stearic Acid, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Lauroyl Lysine, Disodium EDTA, Acrylates/C10-30 lkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Adenosine, Centella Asiatica Extract, Artemisia Vulgaris Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid

This is a relatively short and clean ingredients list for a sunscreen. All of the ingredients are EWG rated 1 except for the two UV filters – Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide.

Apart from the two UV filters, majority of the sun cream is made up of water, emollients and humectants.

High up on the list just after water is Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, a synthetic emollient derived from palm oil. Followed by Butylene Glycol, Glycerin and Dipropylene Glycol, which are all great hydrators that do not react with the skin.

Then we have the main UV filter of this product, which is Zinc Oxide. Zinc Oxide offers protection against a broader spectrum of UV rays than Titanium Dioxide. I’m glad it’s higher on the list.

Then there’s Silica, which is used as a slip agent here. 1,2-Hexanediol is a humectant and preservative.

Next is Niacinamide, a skin brightener. Note Korean skincare usually contains around 2% of Niacinamide, so ingredients beyond Niacinamide are present in small quantities, and most of them are essential oils and extracts.

I’ll give a special mention to tea tree oil here. This sun cream gave a slight (very slight) cooling effect upon application, which adds to the soothing effect delivered by the Centella Complex.

Colour

The cream is a white colour, spread to clear, with no white cast or skin brightening effect at all.

Scent

It has a slight tea tree scent. There’s not much “sunscreen” scent.

Texture

This sun cream has a very light cream texture. It’s solid out of the tube, without any fluidity. But feels like a fluid when spreading out on the skin. It spreads very far. The cream absorbs quickly into the skin and dries down to nothing. It doesn’t leave any film on the skin’s surface. It can feel a little drying if your skin is dry from the start.

Application

Some By Mi Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream feels like a regular cream when applying on the skin. It doesn’t have any typical feeling of a sunscreen such as greasiness, stickiness, or slippery or creamy. It’s water-like.

I use this sunscreen as a replacement for my morning moisturiser. For dry skins, apply your regular moisturiser first then the sunscreen.

I love using the sun cream on days when I’m not using makeup. I like to use a sunscreen with more slip when I’m using makeup, so my makeup glides on better. But Some By Mi Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream is perfect for my morning runs, grocery shopping or dog walks.

When I use this sunscreen, I don’t feel it’s on my skin at all.

Result

Some By Mi Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream offers top coverage to UV rays with SPF 50+ and PA++++.

It doesn’t offer any skin-brightening or pore-blurring effects like some others do. It’s simply UV protection.

It feels very refreshing and soothing on the skin with a slight cooling effect.

It controls oil well

Price

Some By Mi Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream retails for 16,900 Won (~$21 AUD) for 50ml of product. I feel it’s a really good price for the quality of this product.

Verdict

It’s a perfect sunscreen for daily use. It’ll change your view of mineral sunscreen (or even sunscreen) altogether.
