Next generation makeup wipes – Klavuu Pure Pearlsation pH Balancing Quick Cleansing Pad Review

Koreans love their toner pads for sure and it’s not just for exfoliation, they have pads for moisturisation, for brightening, for soothing and acne control. More recently, I’ve seen several brands coming out with these cleansing pads for makeup removal. So, are they the same as cleansing wipes? They are, but so much better! I think they are the next generation of cleansing wipes.

As a skincare addict, I’ve never liked cleansing wipes. I think of them as a skin killer. They are made with rough and stiff fibres that scrape the skin. Plus they don’t even cleanse that well, so you’ll need to rub harder and in effect destroy the skin.

But these next generation Korean cleansing pads are a completely different story. They are soft, soaked in oil dissolving solutions that cleanses well and moisturises the skin much like a skincare product. In this post, I’ll review the Klavuu Pure Pearlsation pH Balancing Quick Cleansing Pad to give you an idea of what they are like.

Packaging

Klavuu Pure Pearlsation pH Balancing Quick Cleansing Pad comes in a sealed clear hard plastic tub. The tub is sturdy and high quality. I quite like the clear packaging where you can easily tell how much product is left.

Ingredients

Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Diethoxyethyl Succinate, Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Butylene Glycol, Pearl Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Spirulina Platensis Extract, Glycerin, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Laminaria Saccharina Extract, Plankton Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Extract, Hyacinthus Orientalis (Hyacinth) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower/Leaf Extract, Borago Officinalis Extract, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract, Sodium Citrate, Chlorphenesin

The first three ingredients are all solvents followed by an emulsifier (Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate). These ingredients have oil dissolving properties therefore is able to remove makeup effectively. 1,2-Hexanediol is another solvent commonly used in skincare and act as a preservative.

Next on the list are Sodium Hyaluronate, Butylene Glycol, both are hydrating agents. Followed by Pearl Extract and Collagen for anti-aging and skin brightening. Then there are various seaweed extracts which is commonly used in Klavuu products for anti-oxidation and skin vitality.

Overall, the formula is quite clean, without the use of PEG or pore-clogging ingredients. It contains a small amount of Orange Peel Oil as a natural fragrance, but no other essential oils.

Colour

The pad is white and the solution is clear.

Scent

It has a light and refreshing orange scent.

Texture

The cotton pads are soft and plush. Each pad has an embossed side and a smooth side.

The solution is water-like, lightweight with a conditioning feel.

Application

I only wear light makeup on a daily basis and one pad is more than enough to remove my entire face and neck. Unlike traditional makeup wipes, which is usually half dry, these cleansing pads are fully wet, saturated with the makeup removing solution, therefore much more effective at dissolving away and removing the makeup. I found no issues with removing pen style eyeliner, mascara or lip colours. Foundations and powdery products are effortless to remove. Lip tints with strong staining properties or heavy waterproof eye makeup may not be suitable to remove by these pads.

The embossed texture has really helped improving the effectiveness of the pad. I usually use the embossed side to swipe across my entire face first before focusing on the eye area, and then using the smooth side to cleanse off any residue. I normally then follow with a water-based second cleanse.

The pad is also great for cleansing off the sebum, sweat and sunscreen after my morning run, saving me to remove the sunscreen with an oil-based cleanser.

Overall, it’s super convenient and quick to use.

Results

The cleansing pad has very good cleansing power yet super gentle on the skin. I love how it leaves my skin feeling moisturised rather than stripped. Zero irritation even with daily use.

Price

Klavuu Pure Pearlsation pH Balancing Quick Cleansing Pad retails for 19,000 Won (~$23 AUD) for 50 pieces of pad. It’s more expensive compared to a regular cleanser but for the convenience and quality, I feel the price is quite average.

Verdict

I wouldn’t say these cleansing pads are a must-have, but they are nice to have especially for on-the-go applications such as before/after the gym or on the plane. If you’re a regular cleansing wipe user, I would suggest switching to these next generation cleansing pads. They are so much better!
