Some By Mi Yuja Niacin Blemish Care Serum Review

Some by Mi is a brand that took me by surprise. Its seemingly hype products are actually well formulated and delivered promising results. Their AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner is one of my favourite acid product that is gentle yet effective at keeping the skin clear. The Snail Truecica Miracle Repair Serum has been my winter staple for plump, smooth and radiant skin. The Yuja Niacin Blemish Care Serum Mask was ranked my favourite mask for 2020 for its beautiful formulation and consistency. In this post, I’ll review the Some by Mi Yuja Niacin Blemish Care Serum, which is my go-to serum for keeping the skin bright and white.

Packaging

Some by Mi Yuja Niacin Blemish Care Serum comes in a yellow plastic pump bottle. The packaging is the same as the Some by Mi Snail Truecica Miracle Repair Serum. The bottle easy and convenient to use. A single pump provides the right amount for one use.

Ingredients

Citrus Junos Fruit Extract (82.37%), Niacinamide, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, C12-14 Pareth-12, Water, Trehalose, C12-14 Pareth-7, Carbomer, Citrus Junos Peel Oil (1,500ppm), Tromethamine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Coptis Chinensis Root Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Agrimonia Eupatoria Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Cellulose Gum, Chamaecyparis Obtusa Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Disodium EDTA, Arbutin, Perilla Frutescens Leaf Extract, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Saussurea Involucrata Extract, Glucose, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Extract, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Panthenol, Glutathione, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Maltodextrin, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract, Pancratium Maritimum (Sea Daffodil) Extract, Folic Acid, Biotin, Pyridoxine, Tocopherol, Cyanocobalamin, Linoleic Acid, Thiamine HCl, Beta-Carotene, Riboflavin, Inositol

Majority of the formula is Yuja Extract, which is really a Vitamin C rich water. Followed by Niacinamide, which is an effective skin brightener and gentle exfoliator. Other skin brighteners in the formula are Licorice Root Extract and Arbutin. Both of which function as inhibitors to the enzyme that produces dark skin pigments. The formula also contains a small amount of Vitamin C derivative: Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate. These active ingredients make it a solid product for skin brightening.

The formula is also rich in skin hydrating ingredients such as Trehalose, Xylitylglucoside, Xylitol, Glucose, Panthenol and antioxidant ingredients such as Green Tea Extract and Glutathione.

Overall, I like how the formula is mainly water-based, without the use of PEG, silicone or other oils, which makes it friendly for acne-prone skins.

Colour

The serum has a pale yellowish colour.

Scent

The serum has a full-bodied yuja scent, the exact same scent that you get from those glass-bottled Korean yuja tea.

Texture

The serum has a light watery texture that flows well. It’s slightly more viscous than water but is not yet a gel. It absorbs well into the skin and leaves a slightly tacky after-feeling. The texture of this serum is much easier to work with than most Vitamin C serums, which tends to be much stickier and heavier due to the need to keep Vitamin C stabilised.

Application

I usually take a pump into the palms then massage it all over the face. The serum is quite watery, therefore takes a few swipes to be absorbed. If you’re using the serum alone, you’ll find it slightly tacky. But on slightly wet skin, i.e. if you use it after a toner or essence, it doesn’t feel tacky at all. After absorbed into the skin, the skin feels plump and nourished. I normally follow with another hydrating serum (e.g. Torriden Dive-In Serum) and finish off with a moisturiser. The serum layers well with other serums and oils and sits well under makeup. It doesn’t ball up.

Results

I’ve been using the serum for about two months and I feel my overall skin tone has been brighter and clearer. It is radiant from within. Unfortunately, my dark spots have not faded, but not worsened either.

Verdict

I love how gentle the Some by Mi Yuja Niacin Blemish Care Serum is compared with traditional Vitamin C serums. It doesn’t cause any skin reactions such as redness or stingy feeling. It has a solid formula with skin brightening ingredients that are proven effective. The light weight texture layers well with other skincare products and makeup. Overall, a great serum for all skin types.
